You may wonder what groupthink is and why I consider it worthwhile to write about it? On the webpage Investopedia.com, Will Kenton describe groupthink “as a phenomenon that occurs when

a group of individuals reaches a consensus without critical reasoning or evaluation of the consequences or alternatives.

Groupthink is based on a common desire not to upset the balance of a group of people. This desire creates a dynamic within a group whereby creativity and individuality tend to be stifled in order to avoid conflict.”

Right to vote

The other day I read something in the line of “At what point will having something to eat become more important than the right to vote?” Please don’t think that I regard the right to vote as not important. I recently received a WhatsApp message containing a video of an elderly man making a short speech after receiving his Doctorate degree (I suppose in Theology). Unfortunately, I do not know who the speaker is, neither the university, but I’ve decided to share his wit and good advice with you.

I am indeed humbled and honoured to be awarded a doctor’s degree from such an outstanding university.

The Man Who Had Everything was one of the hit movies during 1920, a hundred years ago. The title of the movie grabbed my attention, because I never met or heard of anybody who said they have everything they wanted.
In those early years movies were black and white and silent with subheadings to show the dialogue. The plot is something I don’t think modern day scriptwriters would have imagined for their next movie.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life. So what are you going to do with the rest of your life? Perhaps you are still young or perhaps you are retired already. Doesn’t matter, the question remains the same for each one of us.

Adding life to your years

On my 50th birthday my wife decided that I should have a bigger birthday celebration than for instance when I turned 46. Such a nice round number called for something special. Yes, we love to celebrate certain milestones in our lives. But to reach a certain age is basically just a next number, yet I am always grateful when the Lord has blessed me with another year.
