Saturday 6 July 1957 was a defining moment for the history of modern music: it was the day that John Lennon and Paul McCartney met for the first time.
That day John Lennon’s group, “Quarrymen” played at the garden fete of St Peter’s Church in Liverpool. Besides the music, there were craft and cake stalls, games, police dog demonstrations and the traditional crowning of the Rose Queen. Paul McCartney also performed and afterwards McCartney aged 15 was introduced to Lennon then 16.

The last official unemployment figure for South Africa I heard of was more than 27% while many people estimate it to be much higher. Comparing it to a 25% unemployment rate at the height of the Great Depression during the 1930s, we realise we need more than just political promises for South Africa.
Driving through towns and especially industrial areas and seeing how many business premises are empty, I realize that it confirms the high unemployment figures that we read about in newspapers.

The past week we heard that the Notre Dame in Paris, France, one of the world’s most popular attractions, burned down. What an incredible building that stood the test of time for almost 700 years since completion.
I wonder how many modern day buildings would still be here 700 years from now.
