The future of your job?

Few people have ever stood on top of Mt Everest. To be the first, took extra special courage. Imagine you were Edmund Hillary, the first man to summit Mt Everest. You needed to plan for something for which no guidelines or instructions existed. You plan as best you can for something that can only be described as uncertain.

This is the same kind of situation we currently experience when we plan for the future.

Stuck in a rut?

Last week it was interesting to learn that there are vast numbers of people who consider their jobs to be “Bulshit Jobs”. You missed it? Click here to read.

But sometimes you do something that may serve others well. At a meeting the past weekend a man I’ve never met before, approached me and told about the life changing influence a magazine article I wrote, had on his life. Apparently he worked in a particular job in which he was not really happy.

Bullshit Jobs

It is always interesting to see what will pique people’s interest.

David Graeber, a professor of anthropology at the London School of Economics wrote a short article titled On the Phenomenon of Bullshit Jobs. To his amazement within a short while it was translated into 15 languages and students posted parts of it in London’s Underground on the walls. As a result Graeber decided to do more research on the topic and finally wrote a book with the title Bullshit Jobs.

Direction of your deeds

Say I have a business meeting in Bloemfontein next week Thursday; I should be fairly occupied with actions and preparations to get me there on time as well as prepared. Whether I go by plane or drive there does not matter, but my deeds will be directed towards going to Bloemfontein. That speaks of deeds with direction.

Can we say the same about what we do on a daily basis if we evaluate our lives and careers? A video about vision that I watched many years ago stated that

Hindsight and KBA

A friend of mine sent an interesting quote which read:

The only perfect sight is hindsight … and that, we haven’t got.

Think of it, if you and I knew the outcome of career choices or of a business decision before it was taken, we could have avoided the pitfalls or we could have made entirely different decisions.
